One of the last places you may have thought you’d get hair – your ears. Believe it or not, most people do have ear hair and it’s very common to get it as we age, but the thing is that we never really think about the fact that it’s even there. It’s usually a girlfriend, spouse or family member that notices it and you can only hope that they have the courtesy to tell you about it. Now that you know it’s there, lets talk about getting rid of it.
What is the Best way to Trim Ear Hair?
Invest in an ear hair trimmer
Almost all brands out there will sell these. They look just like the picture on the right and can be used for trimming both nose and ear hair.
You should be able to buy these on their own, or what’s even better is getting one in a kit. You can purchase many trimmer kits that will usually come with everything a hairy guy will ever need. This includes attachments for shaving your head, trimming and lining your facial hair, trimming your eyebrows and, yes, an attachment for trimmer nose and ear hair.
Let me say that getting a kit like this is one of the best purchases I’ve ever made (I have one along with my regular clippers that I use to shave my head). They’re nice because they’re smaller than a clipper and they help get those hard to reach places (like your ears).
Once you have one, each attachment should be easily detachable a re-attachable. Simply attach the nose/ear hair attachment to the trimmer and turn it on. Then you want to insert it into your ear and carefully move it around to shave any areas that hairs are growing from. It’s likely that you’ll be able to hear the hairs being trimmed while you do it. The trimmer won’t cut you, but just don’t try to jam it unnecessarily far into your ear.
Duh, you probably already knew that.
Once you’re satisfied, you should be all trimmed up. If you have a significant other or a really really cool friend that wouldn’t grill you about it, ask them to check out the situation and see if you missed anything.
Clean the attachment
Of course I must add that you should clean your attachments after any hair removal. You never know what could build up on there. A quick drop of dish soap and a rinse under warm water should do the trick.
Pluck the hairs
If you find that you only have a few hairs you need to get rid of and don’t feel the need to get an ear hair trimmer, then simply plucking the hairs out with a pair of tweezers should suffice.
The tricky part with this method is being able to see what you need to pluck. You could try to wing it but chances are you miss multiple hairs. If your only option is to do it on your own then I would suggest using a small mirror as well as your bathroom mirror to be able to get a good look in your ear.
If you happen to have someone around that could help like your wife or girlfriend, or that really cool friend I mentioned earlier, then I’d suggest getting them to pluck the hairs for you. That way nothing will be missed and it will likely be done in a quarter of the time.
The video below will show you how to use a trimmer and pluck the hairs with tweezers. It also shows how to do it by using scissors and waxing, although I would see those methods being more useful for your chest or armpits.
My final suggestion
Easily getting rid of your ear hair comes down to 2 options – using a trimmer or manually plucking. Both ways will have you free of ear hair in no time, but whether you’ve got a lot of hair or a little, I would always suggest buying a trimmer kit over plucking. They are relatively inexpensive and come in handy for a ton of other hair shaving moments in a mans life – and you’re likely to have a lot of them.
